Financial Inclusion

Financial inclusion is a simple idea; every individual and business has equal and affordable access to basic goods and services to meet their everyday needs and long-term goals. However, an estimated 2 billion people across the world, with more than 500 million in Asia, are still without access to basic financial services, relying instead on expensive, inefficient and often exploitative informal markets.

When people gain income, they gain choice, and that is fundamental to dignity.
- Jacqueline Novogratz, CEO & Founder, Acumen Fund

Micro and small businesses, which form the backbone of the Asian economy, as well as underserved sectors of society, including low-income households, women and rural communities, remain excluded from growth and it’s benefits without access to formal financial services. Serving these communities and ensuring they have the financial freedom to access basic healthcare, food security and education is no longer a ‘nice to have’ but a moral and social imperative; investing in financial inclusion is needed now, and it is needed at scale.
